ok, hope some body can help me,but i have a 1978 f150 4x4. it has 33 on it,i can find no evidence on a lift(blocks, longer springs,add ons)everthing i find says you need a 4"lift to fit 33" on a stock turck thats not a highboy.how can i tell what i have?
Think I had 35s on my 74 with no lift but I had to bend in the corner of the fenders on the front to keep from rubbing. (perhaps I'm misremembering--it's been a few years ago)
Do you have pictures you can post? I noticed you have not yet created a gallery.
You can also get lift from a shackle flip. There are some threads about that and some members have pictures (ivanribic has pictures and a description of what he did--see https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...&albumid=13227)
Here's a thread that might help you. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...ight=tire+size
If you check my gallery I have 33s on with about 4" of lift. Planning on going with 35s once I've finished the body work, paint, etc and start actually driving it.
Most of these trucks can tuck 33's w/o rubbing stock (no blocks)..but keep in mind that sometimes things can vary depending on if the suspension is orginal w/ 30 + years of wear, or if its been freshened up. I guess to answer your question...it isnt unusual to be able to fit them w/o any modifications...I can on my 73 2wd.

I have 31\10.50 mt on mr stock 79 and they rub a little when i turn, BUT for the same truck I have a set of 33\12.50 on offset rims and there is no rubbing.
On the rear i have even had 36 with no problame.
I f you have a sawzall you can clear about any size with some fender trim.
So the factory blocks have been removed? I removed mine from my 79 F-150 when I installed a leveling lift. I got new spring packs in the rear that were for a 4" lift but I removed the factory blocks. Better traction and less axle wrap. Oh and I have 33x9.5's and they clear with no problem.

....and a much rougher ride. I did that on my 82, worst thing i ever did.
well thanks 2 all of you that helped out. i guess i'm just going to have to add a lift to fit 35's. now if i can only find away to fix the rust on the bed floor, i'll be all set.
im talkin bout the rear. course my 82 is leaf all the way around that prolly don't help too much. it's got a 10 or 11 leaf stack out back- concrete has more give. 4stack up front compared to 2 from the factory, she's a buckboard.
Keep in mind just because the tires says it's a 33, doesn't mean it really is ! My Swampers measure a real 33", but they're the same overall heigth as my BFG 35's.
