I just bought a Edelbrock streetmaster intake from a local guy for $45. its for my 418. the only problem is is that the exhaust crossover pan is gone! he said i can just patch the port holes for this on the intake. Any suggestions?
Well I dont know of any guys doing it lately? But a few years ago some of the guys were using a light gauge matal patch to cover the holes... Use a drop or 2 of crazy glue to hold them in place til you get the gasket set and the Intake...
Make sure that the patch is a little bigger than the crossover...and I also "IF" I ever had to go this route ..get some gasket material and plug the hole in the gasket also...
I have never had to do this job..But this is how I have heard its been done by a few people...
Does the street master even come with a crossover pan on the bottom? I can't remember if I've ever seen one that has one? But why would that make a differnece whether or not you block the crossover? I've run intakes without the pan on the bottom, but have used the valley pan. And they have been just fine. If you just want to block off the crossovers anyway I used to use part of a butter knife. LOL it worked tho. The fix Russ suggested it about the best. Cold weather warmups take longer with those blocked.
Heat crossover block = .020 brass shim stock from the hobby supply or home store near you. Lasts forever, attached to head with copper silicone, total cost about $5
Thanks guys...I'll try that and see how it holds. Im quite not that far in the build yet but yet i have everything to complete it...Time is a factor with school and all. thanks again!!!!!!
