Hi I have a 98 Windstar and one day the wheels locked solid. I know the engine is fine starts right up and runs great, pull it in gear and it stalls. The wheels in fact are locked like the brake is on. Someone told me that it is the TC locked up due to a bad sensor or solonoid. Is this possible? Anyone know of a way to troubleshoot or is it likely the trans itself is toast. I have never seen an auto trans do this before.
Wrong forum. You ned to head on over to the Taurus forum. The Aerostar uses a differnt transmission, and while a lot of the same principles and designs apply, you vehicle does not have a transmission per se, but rather a transaxle (Transmission/differential combined) The Taurus people will probably be more familair with your setup. We will help all we can, but the Aerostar is really very different.
Well on some of the Aerostars after awhile of using the E-Brake it doesn't release itself. Something with the spring it seems. If you do a search here there has been more than one with the problem & how they fixed it.
Did you jack up the rear wheels and try turning them to see if they would spin?
Yes I know, but the E-brake is on the Rear wheels and that is what I was asking. If he lifted the rear and tried turning the wheels to see if they were loose.
Put it in drive and it stalls!!! Bad trans or tq converter..or solenoids etc..

That's my thinking too. One quick way to check it out is to start it, put in Neutral, have someone push the car from behind, and engage the gear with the car rolling. If it doesn't stall until the red light, then it's definitely the T/C lockup.
