My M5OD tranny has been leaking fluid, so I've gone to replace the shifter plugs as described in this article (apparently a fairly common problem with this tranny)
Now the problem is, I was careful to have the tranny is 1st gear as shown, but having put the top end back on, when I attach the shifter, it will not engage any gears!!
Obviously something got knocked out of place, but I have no idea how to get it back in properly, having already spent several hours trying... any ideas ???
I would put the transmission in neutral and then slide the stick into position. Good Luck Sir !
How do I determine the neutral position for the gears ??
Also in the article it explicitly states to NOT remove the stick in the neutral position, making me think it would be difficult to get back in in neutral....
Now I'm having the same problem. Dave, can you tell me what you did to fix it when you where doing this?
Here what I did...
1. Inside the transmission, adjust the gears to neutral. Do this by finding the center position for the front and rear gear ring. Push each piece all the way forward, and all the way back to find it's range, then put it to the middle position from there, you should have a brass syncro ring just showing on either side.
2. Attach the shift **** to the top of the transmission (off the transmission body), and "shift" it into the neutral position (this is easier with 2 people, but can be done with 1). To be sure, the shifter should move left and right easily.. you know what I mean I'm sure...
3. Put the top on complete with shifter attached, tighten a couple bolts, and test to make sure you can shift it.
