<TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">I am Currently building a truck for competition truck pulling and I am torn between 2 engines. A 460 or a 534. I know that you can't get any performance parts for a 534 but they were already built for hauling but, and it's weighs 1000+ lbs. I was thinkin about a 460 stroked out. I have no idea how much they cost in CND Dollars and I am on a tight budget. Your opinions would be great

Not too confident in the performance of the 534 for your application. A 900 series 534 was designed for heavy trucks, commonly found in fire trucks, for running pumps. With little to no aftermarket, available, I would have to lean towards a big inch 460. A decent stroker motor should outperform that old industrial thing.
performance and 534 don't really belong in the same sentance, except performance boat anchoring. there are SOOOO many more performance goodies for 460s and $2000k for a stroker kit will put you into the 570's cube wise, if what you want is the cubes....
Unless you already have the engine, I bet that a good 534 will cost at least double what a good 460 will. In my experiance the only thing a 534 preformed well at was drinking gasoline.
what class you goin to run?most hot stock classes wont let ya run more than 488 inch my bro found out the expencive way when the checked his 514 and D Qed him for cheatin they checked me and didnt like the fact i had p.i heads on mine but they let me go cuzz they found a guy with aluminum cj heads and let him go
If you don't have CID limits then stroke a 460, if you plan on running it on the street stay with a 4.3 stroke, 6.8" rod combo, if competition only go as big as you can get. 4.5" stroke on a 4.440 bore (557 cid) or if you can get a after market block and go to 4.5 or 4.6 bore (572, 598 cid respectively). But with cid limits just run a 460 and forget about that 534, in pulling your going to want rpms, and that big truck motor just isn't setup to pull that many rpms.
