RIP Molly Ivins
• Being slightly paranoid is like being slightly pregnant - it tends to get worse.
As for most of the rest, I disagree. But it was still well written...
I'd say "for shame", but somewhere up there Molly is chortling at you...so I will too.
S'matter of fact, you were quite respectful, even though you may not agree with her views. Your post was quite refreshing given some of the stuff on FTE these days.

I mean you no insult at all, but at times it is needful to be said.

If Cal Thomas or Michelle Malkin passed away I'd be thinking the same way. Sorry they died, but I wouldn't ignore who they really were either, a couple of partisan columnists, just like Ivins.

So are you going to post the link as replies to the other posters on this thread as well? Or, including to yourself when you've gotten hot about something someone wrote? I truly mean no insult either.
We all have done it.My original post here on this thread is because I get amused, and sometimes irritated at how things ("things" being righteous outrage) can be so one-sided here. It's symptomatic of what's wrong in this country (and world) today. Anyone care to look back at other RIP threads and see how the Red-Staters inflame so easily?
And some of the the replies have simply proven my point, and quite blindly too. (Repeat, you were not one of them).
So, on we go. I actually hold my tongue often here, but sometimes, it's interesting to offer a garment of general fit, and see who claims it to be their size.

Art Buchwald was around for much longer and was far better known than Ms. Ivins, but he was not recognized here. All political ideologies could count on being mocked by Mr. Buchwald if they deserved it, but he did it in a way so as to not appear as divisive as so many commentators of today appear. His jabs at the "high and mighty" were humorous, often hers were not.
I think the thread originator knew very well that this would be a contentious thread. Anyone who read Ms. Ivins' work knew she was a contentious individual. Crying that an RIP thread should not be politicized, especially when offered for someone like Ms. Ivins, further serves to politicize the atmosphere. She carefully chose her words and so chose how she would portray her beliefs. That, in turn, dictates how some people thought of her and will think of her. I have little doubt she would mind much, in life or the hereafter.
Smokin John: It's a pity that anyone holding views divergent from yours is considered "partisan" or in some way otherwise unworthy of his own heartfelt opinion. If I don't agree with you am I automatically wrong?
e1p1: Using words like "Red-Staters" serves to prove my point. Complain and exacerbate the problem you just complained about.
Note what I wrote: all facts about me or the state of the industry in which she worked. I never mentioned what my views were, just that I could never agree with the woman and did not share her brand of humor.
I would also like to add that I had to force myself to read her stuff because it was often riddled with negativism, pessimism, and sometimes was just downright pi$$y. But I did it because I knew it was good for me to read things other than that with which I usually agree. It was the "Cod-liver oil" of my life then.
Had she been in sales, she would have had a hard time selling me an Icee in the middle of the Sahara. I just didn't care for the way she came off.
Also, I believe she borrowed this: "Being slightly paranoid is like being slightly pregnant - it tends to get worse." I will try to find who used this before her. I'm thinking it was either Samuel Clemens or one of the famous vaudevillians. There will be an update.
