I was wondering why there is no mention of installing an electric motor driven cooling fan for the radiator instead of the engine driven one. It would certainly increase HP. Certainly Dave S. has researched this.
So far, no one has found one strong enuf to cool the diesel yet. Some have tried it though. Been discussed alot on the net.
Actually, from what I gather, Dave found one that would do the job, but it wouldn't stand up to the way he abuses.....er.....I mean......works his truck!
But it does take a really high-flow fan, and they're pretty expensive.
Actually, I was using two fans.
The elecrical draw from running both of them while plowing snow with all the lights on created other problems for me as well.
Yes it does free up some HP, and it does increase the MPG.
But both of those increases added together were not enough to justify the cost of a fan that may or may not do the job when I was working the engine.
