Has anyone taken an older cab (80) and put it on a 84? I've got a chance to buy a clean 80 cab that was off a 2 wheel drive auto for my 84 with 4X4 and stick. I have a couple of questions pretaining to this swap.
1. I know the cab will bolt up - but how about the clutch linkage? 80's had a mechanical clutch. Not to mention this was an auto cab. Therefore there are no indications of where the master cylinder would go. Just drill new holes and bolt the master up?
2. What about the trans hump? Would just piecing the top part of the 84 tunnel to the 80 work? Although I haven't measured yet it really looks like the 80's trans hump is alot smaller. The 1980 cab doesn't even have an indentation in the hump like the newer auto cabs have where the cutout for the manual would go.
number 1: i have seen where people had told others on this site to measure and cut for the master cylinder, from looking at my 86 it looks like you might be able to cheal the whole plate off the cab swap them out and reweld it back on the 80 cab. as far as number 2 your 84 cab, the tranny hump should be screwed on, that should come off with little work. as far as the 80 cab. i dont think that plate will be that easy to remove but you can place the 84 plate on top of the 80 and trace it and leave in a 1/4- 1/2 inch more and cut it.
I converted my 86 from auto to manual trans, when I went to do the clutch master there was already a dimple in the firewall where the hole was suppose to be. As for the floor, mine has a removeable section over the transmission hump. I've seen some that don't have it, but most do have it.
