I just got my truck back from the dealer and they reflashed my truck. The injectors now run for up to 30 seconds after I turn off my truck. In the service guys words..."it's to clean out the injectors".
Does anyone have this program? And if so, is it really good for the injectors? Does it run them dry?
I went in and requested this "flash". Told my dealer I was having "cold start isues" My feeling was if it's good for the injectors and the overall life of the motor then why not. Once my warranty is up and I have to start paying a $100 "deductible" on each visit after the 3/36 is up then it's money in my pocket. Seem like the injectors always seem to be a root problem
As far as the buzz sound goes I hardly notice it anymore. I just shut the truck down, jump out and walk away. It is kinda funny though to watch other people stare at the truck with a little curiousity wondering what is going on

it is meant to cycle them to lessen the chance of them sticking..it is meant to add life to the injectors. which are $380 each.. so be happy w/ the noise...good luck..
The reflash is designed to "tickle" the injectors after engine shutdown, (preferably with engine oil temp at or above 180 degrees) to allow the hot oil to drain out of the intensifier chamber inside the injectors to prevent spool valve sticking. A Very Good Thing.

Tell me about it. I've had people tell me my truck is going to blowup, that its the damnst thing they ever heard, "if its good for the injectors then why doesnt the 7.3 have it" etc etc. I still notice the noise and it drive s me crazy but i deal with it, its not bad enough that i'm getting reid of it.
i have an 06 also, can I just go into the dealer and tell them to do it? or do i have to have a problem first? i haven't taken it in since i bought it, because i haven't had any issues with the truck. i got it in august. i believe the build was feb or march 06. i can't remember off the top of my head.
my other question and i'm sure it's been discussed before is, why doesn't ford send TSB's out to their customers? i know not all of them are necessary but the customer who shelled out 35k-55k for a truck, should be informed of anything that can help their truck or any vehicle out.

just take it in and ask them to do it. Call for an appointment so you are not waiting around for hours...
dapgar, take it in and tell them your have cold start problems. Its goingto take them along time to check that one out cause the truck is goingto be already warm by the time you get there. The thinking here is they'll just reflash you and put you on the road with hopes of good riddins.
Diddo on what dscofever said. Just call up your service department, tell them your having "cold start problems" I also mentioned that I "heard about a "flash" that cycles the injectors". I got my appointment for a week later. Took it in and drank the free coffee and read the newspaper while they "flashed" it.
I laugh about it because like it was pointed out the dealer doesen't send you notices about TSB's on mandated recalls. I imagine by now my dealer knows where I get my information from, as all they have to do is look at the top of my windshield and see the following words......... ford-trucks.com
I doubt that it can get much plainer than that. LOL
This site is amazing. I read about the problem with the 03's having a lower radiator hose rubbing on the steering box. So I looked and mine was almost warn through. So with my extended warrant in hand (more or less) I called my dealer, he ordered the $61 hose and made an appoitment. While I had him on the phone explained I wanted the FICM flashed with the latest cure for cold starts. He agreed and all was done today.
It buzzes now on shute down and will know in the moring if it made and cold start difference. Should be around 25-30 degees.
Well started up my truck this morning, 38 degress and it started just like it does when 50 degrees. FICM flash made a big difference. No smoke either. Now I've been reading Ford has a whole new program for the injectors coming out. I'm happy with my big buzz box now!!
