I was scanning rangers on ebay and I noticed that in the 80's, rangers had either a 2.0 or 2.3. My 84 had the 2.3. My question is, how did they detrmine which 4 cylinder to put in, was it an option, or luck of the draw ? Also wouldn't it make more sense just to put the 2.3 in a truck as trucks tend to be alittle heavier than cars? It just caught my attension that they would use such a small engine in a truck when the 2.3 was available.
The 2.0 was only used in base model trucks and I also think only in reg. cab.
You are right about the weight, the 2.0 used just as much gas as the 2.3 and had less power. Kinda like the 3.0 VS 4.0 debate in the newtrucks.
Wasn't the 2.0 also carbed, and the 2.3 fuel injected? I am getting a 87 Ranger in March (from my brother) and it has the 4 cylinder in it, but I don't know which one yet. Of course, I am hoping it is the 2.3.
I don't think the 2.3 had to be carbed, I had them in pinto's with no carb, so they had carbed versions. My 84 had a carbed 2.3, at least I was told that it was a 2.3 when I bought it.
Cool, I was hoping it was the 2.3. If I remember correctly it was fuel injected. However, I have not seen it in 6-8 years, and then only once. My brother has owned it for well over 10 years now, but now it is too small for his family. I just have to go up there and pick it up
