I can't disagree with either of you. The more I think about it, I'm tempted to add a ground wire from the battery to the inner fender/radiator support. I think the light flickering is directly caused by the alternator charge/not charging. They don't completely go out, just dim down and then really bright. Is there a chance my charge wire is rubbing and grounding out, but not enough to burn through the fusible link? I'm in the house with a sick kid tonight or I would investigate now.

Doubtful. If it hits, sparks will fly and it will get the fusible link. The only thing that ever usually goes wrong with that wire is sometimes the factory will have a splice up in the loom, and it will corrode. You have to unwrap the wiring to see it.
The ground cable to the block is good, not sure if I reconnected the one to the firewall from the intake last time I rebuilt the engine. I will try that today and see how it affects the problem.
Success!! I ran a ground wire from the battery post to the regulator mounting screw and for good measure, continued it on to the firewall. I re-connected the amp gauge directly to the battery post instead of the solenoid. Drove it all day with no radio cut-out and amp meter sitting steady at near 0 after initial recharge after starting. I should have figred this out sooner. Thanks to all.
