Ford family..

I drive a 04 supercrew, wife a 98 Taurus my son 06 explorer ,daughter 04 explorer..Last month my wife and I went and looked at the 07 Fusion ,liked the looks and the way it drove.Got on the computer and started re-searching the car and found it was made in Mixico. With Ford losing over 7 billion dollars and 30,000 auto workers losing their jobs, whats ford thinking sending those jobs across the border , then Honda and Toyota build there cars here.Figure that out..

With the exception of the shared GM/Toyota factory in Fremont CA, all the factories built by the Japanese/German based companies in the US are NON union.

The Saturn factory in TN is non union.

Ford has been building cars/trucks in Mexico for 20+ years.

It's all about cheaper labor/health care costs.

And what do you think GM's OnStar is? Most of the manufacturers have some sort of onboard info, whether it's satellite linked or not.

Recently, in a case that received nationwide media attention, a man got 10 years for manslaughter because of "black box" info.

He had claimed he had come to a complete stop at a four way intersection. He then pulled out into traffic, and hit a car driven by a young mother with child on board. The mother and child were killed.

But...the black box info showed the car he was driving was going 85 MPH when it hit the other car. (It was not a Ford product).

For one: I would never own a GM product in the first place.
For two: I dont plan on owning anything newer than a '95

So why bring up black boxes if you are never going to own anything newer than a 1995 model?

Ah...but other makers besides GM are using OnStar Technology...betcha didn't know that...Toyota for one.

And don't be surprised if your onboard computer has "certain" data stored, besides trouble codes.

FWIW, I do not think anyone has been WRONGLY convicted because of OnStar or a black box.

> What do some of you all think of Ford building vehicles in Mexico?

NAFTA = SHAFTA

If everyone voted for Ross Perot we wouldn't be worrying about it ;-D

Ford built vans for years in Canada and that did not stop me from buying them and it would not stop me from buying one made in Mexico either.

The black boxes exist mostly because of the need for airbag data and to CYA for the car OEMs when airbags and seatbelts fail above 65 mph.

> then Honda and Toyota build there cars here.Figure that out..

Because they save money doing it and to circumvent things. As an example Subaru putting two plastic seats in the back of a pickup bed to reclassify it. They don't do it for the good of the USA, they do it to sell Americans more product.

I think most of fords problems are at the dealership level.my wife loves our fords and really wanted a lincon pickup..but when we were shopping last year two things turned her away.she liked the ac controls for driver -passenger and rear passengers and the ford/lincon dealer was high pressure and high priced.even though we paid cash..so she went with a new surban LS The ladys have there ways and you just cant push them around in the show room anymore....bill

So ford has started building in Mexico? I thought they wouldn't be building until 2010 or something like that. Although I can't blame them but we've bought our last Ford's if that's the case. I'm sorry America has lost enough to Mexico...

Started building? Ford has been building cars and trucks in Mexico since the 1980's. One of the first was Mercury's version of the Escort.

All the major manufacturers build cars and trucks now in Mexico. GM, Ford and Diamler Chrysler are also building factories in China.

If you don't like Mexico, Canada, China or Europe...I guess you won't be buyng anything new for a while.

And where do you thing your washing machines are made...TV's, clothes, shoes, where are some foodstuffs coming from?

Mexico...read the labels.

It's a Global Economy today, like it or not.

It used to be that only $400.00 per person in 'foreign goods' (books don't count) could be brought into the US without paying taxes. Several years ago, that figure was raised to $800.00.

But now we have NAFTA...the North American Free Trade Agreement...that means we can bring back $1000's worth of goods...tax free, right?

Wrong...the $800.00 figure still is in effect. You and I, who are American citizens, aren't eligible for NAFTA.

Go figure.
