I had a similar issue with a credit card company. I pay all my bills through my banks online bill pay system. Well my credit card company and mortage company have similar names. Going through fast one day I accidentally sent my mortage to my credit card company. (mind you the card had a zero balance and had not been used in over 1 year) I was fat dumb and happy till I got the letter from the mortage company saying "Hey dummy where's our money" After figuring out what had happend I sent the mortage company another check and went to the task of getting my money back from the credit card company. Long story short is it took me 45 days to get the money back from the credit card company and I heard every excuse in the book. I admit it was 100% my fault but the delay in getting my money back to me was ridiculous I felt. I HAD been a good customer for the cc company but after that I am now a former customer of them. so I feel your pain.
Couldn't you have paid the mortgage with the credit card? Then you'd have a zero balance on the card. If the mortgage co. doesn't take plastic, you could have gotten a cash advance, although there are fees associated with those. Just a couple of thoughts.
We traded my wife's '05 Focus for an '07 Freestar in December. I had the Focus payments to FMC set up for electronic payment. Forgot to cancel it and sent an extra payment in after we'd traded it off. It took them a couple weeks to get the refund back, but no particular hassles. Some of the delay was because it was Christmas and the mail was running slow, they cut the check within a week or so.
Well, It has been 37 days............ and... No refund! Of course they are saying it was sent, but should I believe them? The told me 10 days, and then after ten, said it should have been sent. Then started telling me 30, and now still nothing at 37 days. I am sure on probably the next call, the story will be that they will keep it for 90. They will make a lot more money off it if they keep it for 90. Oh well, I guess I didn't need my 9k.

jrslacy --- Did you ever get your 9K? Update...please.
I have dealt twice with FMCC without problems. You are perhaps not talking to the correct person. AND, they could have sent it, the USPS can lose stuff just when you need it the most.
They don't gain anything by holding onto 9K for an extra month, unless they are doing it on a large scale. Ask for the check number, they can find that out. You just haven't been able to talk to the right person yet.
I recieved my money. It only took 38 days. They used the slowest shipping possible I think. The ironic part is that I overnighted the money to them, just to speed up the process.
