Oil Question

Hey, i had kind of an oil worry. I just bought my '96 F150 a couple weeks ago, and I wanted to check the oil just to see how it looked. I keep getting a "thin line" read on the side of the stick. There couldnt be any burning and there shouldnt be leakage, because there is a fresh motor in the truck. Are Fords known to not give full stick reads? please help me out

Stick on my '95 reads fine. Since you just bought this truck, you might as well change the oil. That way you know it is fresh AND... you can put the required 6 quarts in and see where it is on the stick. That is the only way to be sure. I have a '95 (below) and never have any problem reading the stick. PS. use a Motorcraft FL1A or Wix 51515 filter (NAPA Gold 1515).

Just make sure you're on level ground. I find that the slightest hill that drops the front end down will throw off my level.

A new engine probably will burn some oil until it is broken in. A quart or two bewteen oil changes wouldn't surprise me for the first 8-10k miles.
