Maybe you should if you only have $4500 in your 6.9L, because my friend has $9000 in his 7.3L (this is w/ everything including turbo, inter cooler, exhaust, heads, and machine work). He is also up grading the pistons and valves and he replaced the heads, because they were cracked. He is a mechanic and is doing everything, but the machine work himself. He's not a bargan shoper if you couldn't tell!!

Makes a new Powerstroke F-350 @ $CDN 50,000 look darn right cheap doesn't it. You get the whole truck, not just an engine.

Skipped the ceramic coating, but added milling the pistons down.
Never milled the heads.
Don't see balancing the engine in your price.
Cam and lifters and all bearings and gaskets are also missing.
I did have a good many hours in the project, but not 8,000 dollars worth.
Till you get all the adapters and related parts you will be in the same price range with the Cummins.
The big thing I don't like about that swap is you are not going to run down to Ford or Dodge and get some of the parts you might break.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I don't think the price of the cummins install will reach $13,000.00...remember, I already have the conversion kit, came with the truck.
As far as not been able to run down to a Ford or Cummins dealership for parts...I can't see that being a problem Dave, there is not all that much in the conversion kit
-motor mounts
-pulley
-upper waterneck
-alternator bracket
-most of everything else is a Ford or Cummins part
The biggest hurdle I have, as I belive others, while mechanicaly inclined, I'm not a mechanic....I belive I can install the an engine....but rebuild one is a different story.
So take the price of the install, approx. $2,000.00 from $13,000.00, thats $11,000.00....and It still wouldn't be the same as yours, Dave.
Or we can look at it another way.....the cummins comes complete with a turbo and intercooler and at $6,200.00, thats a far cry from $7800.00....add a turbo and your well over $10,000.00 and that does not include an intercooler!
If I knew some one in the busness, I immagine the price would be considerately less...but I don't!
So unless you start building engines for us guys in the forum Dave, looks like I'm going to have a Cummins in my Ford!!

Who are you using for parts??
Who are you planning on using for a machine shop??
If you are mechanically inclined, why not do the following:
-Remove you own engine
-Remove all your major components... heads, intake, IP... and so on...
-take your complete short bolck and head to have them re-built
-take your rebuilt short block and rebuilt heads and re assemble the engine...
-re install...
No turbo I cant see that costing more than $5000.....
-I have an 84 IDI, not the best for a rebuild
-the rebuilt 6.9 would be a late 85 to 87
The Cummins is a private sale, actually it the machinest this diesel shop has used for the last 15 years....
-no core charge
-no pst
-no gst.
