Hey,
I just painted my truck ( first time ) and I've got runs all over. I used Shirwin Williams acrylic enamel dark blue metallic. I know I've gotta repaint but what grit? paper? or process do I do? It's not a show truck just a beater but i want it to look decent. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks, Mike
Do you have a da sander? Probably the easiest way would be 320 on a da and sand it back down. If they are more severe, maybe sand where you have runs with 240 and go over that with 320. Acrylic enamel is a pretty slow curing paint though, so may be gummy for awhile, specially with runs being thicker. If the paint is gumming up the paper at all, wetsanding with around 400 on a sanding block may to better. Hopefully you mixed a hardener with it. Also make sure you don't leave any divets trying to sand out the runs that you will see when painted. If you go through and can't get a good featheredge, you might want to hit those spots with a little 2k primer and sand it the next day. If they are really bad and massive amount of runs, then the easiest may be to sand it down with a couser paper and prime. Being a single stage metallic, you are going to probably have to repaint even if they were realitively minor. I'm not sure exactly what your dealing with, but see if 320 on your da will sand them out and if it does and you don't feel any bad spots, repaint after resanding the truck.
Try using around 400 wet paper on a sanding block then. A few beer breaks to rest the arms every now and then may also help, lol. Good luck. Let us know how it going.
