Does anyone know what the plug gap should be 93/5.0? My Chiltons says.044, sticker under the hood says .052-.056. I just pulled a plug (new-I didn't put them in, though), and they are set at .039?
Also, I noticed the TFI is not mounted on the distributor, what year did they stop doing that? I know my 91 is on the dist., and just assumed it was there on the 93.
They moved the TFI in 92 to the driver's side inner fender to help reduce heat related failures of the TFI module. The module is still sitting in a huge heat sink over on the fender.
There is a miss and loss of power at higher rpms. BTW - I noticed in my Motor repair manual that it also says to use the sticker over its own specs.
Since you are doing the plugs... I can't resist: try the AC Delco Rapidfires or the Bosch 4 prong platinums, maybe the triple prong platinum Splitfires, and 8MM or better premium wires. Get an MSD 45KV coil (Accel or whatever brand name that makes a drop-in 42KV plus coil for your 5.0).
Might be a tad pricey, but you'll think you have a new truck when you stomp on it!

Have to agree with that. Spent the money on the bosch 4 prong platinums, and received absolutely no benefit re: hp, throttle response, mpg, anything. Was basically a waste of money.
I agree 100% on the "gimmick" plugs. The set of Bosch Platimuns I bought have actually been worse than the Champions I have run in every other car I ever owned. Some things are just better done the old fashioned way.
I've done the same thing on AMCs, Studebakers, Chryslers, GMs, Fords, Volvos, Triumphs and all showed a definite improvement over the stock ignition setup.
Now, if you are saying the premium plugs don't do much all by themselves - other than the benefits expected from installing new plugs - I might give an inch on that. But as part of a total ignition upgrade, the premium plugs do provide better high rpm performance than stock copper styles.
