2001 4.2 Coolant leak

2001 4.2 Coolant leak
I posted this in the 4.2 section any didn't get any response. So I thought I'd try here.
Well, the leak is on my Dad's 2001 F150 Reg cab SB w/4.2 auto. I'm doing the troubleshooting over the phone from 300 miles away, so here is everything I know:
Puddle on the ground about even with the rear of the left front tire and 12"-18" in.
No excess smoke out the tailpipe.
Running fine.
What are the "common" leak areas? Just trying to make sure he doesn't hydrolock the motor. Thanks.
