Well still ahveing the same problems i have had for some time now but i was informed to check the roll over switch. The truck does not like to start at times then you wait and you will hear the pump turn on and then it will start. Or you will be driving and it will just die. So i have been told that there is a roll over switch in it that has a reputation for malfuction. Does anyone know where it is or what the exact name for it is. I have a 96 XLT. thanks
Not sure how to test. I was just reading about it in the Haynes manual last night. Sounds easy enought to get to, might be a cheap/easy replacement to make sure that is not the problem.
Make sure the red button on the top is depressed(pushed in) as this will cut your fuel pump off.
Perfect i iwll look for it today after work. Thank you for the info. oh sorry one last thing. in the haynes manual what do they call it i have the Chiltons and I was not able to find it. Do they call it roll over switch or what is the technical term for it. thanks again!
It is the inertia switch and it is located on the driver side by the fuse panel. I was able to eliminate mine from the equation by using a test light. If you are questioning whether it is malfunctioning get yourself a replacement and if it doesn't fix the problem return it. I call that easter egging but hey, sometimes it works.
You can jumper the fuel pump on using the ECM test connector. This may help you narrow it down or at least get you home. If you jumper this and it still dose not work, probably a bad pump.
pump is good. it is brand new. these problems were the same before i changed it thinking it was a bad pump. But i was wrong. The link you put in is for 95 and lower will it still work for the 96 obd11 systems?
There is a pump jumper terminal on the OBD-II connector, but it's laid out totally differently from the older connector and not even under the hood. I don't remember which pin it is, but the connector is under the middle of the dash.
