Angry Computer frying the PCM and CPS?

My truck wouldn't start and I took it to the mech. He stated the the PCM was getting so hot that the plastic was bubbling. He replaced it and then the CPS went out. He replaced that and he thinks there is a short in the system. He tested the entire wiring harness and it checks out good. Now he thinks it might be the computer causing the PCM to fry and is testing it tomorrow. Does this sound possible?

I'd go to a different mechanic. One who knows that the PCM is the computer. Or is he talking about an IDM?

maybe the IDM and I have it wrong? If so, does his hypothosis make sense?

Don't know. I thought the pcm uses about 5 volts for all if its' work. That is why the IDM is signalled by the pcm to activate the injectors so as not to overload the pcm. Did he put it on a scanner?
