transmission modulator

Where is the transmission modulator located on my 94 awd aero. I have read that if these leak and your engine sucks in fluid you will develop a knock. I have been trieng to pinpoint a mysterious knock on my motor, more like a collapsed lifter noise that goes away when its put in nuetral or park. It's not the tranny.. 600.00 later and parts I didn't need, or the heads, 1.500 later

On the passenger side, near the cat. There should be a heat shield covering it up on the 4.0L models.

Did you already spend $600 on the transmission and $1500 on the heads?

Yes What a nightmare this has become. The mechanic that did the heads and valvetrain is supposed to take a look at it again

has the mechanic checked the flex plate that the TC mounts to and the crankshaft spacer between crank and TC...
when in park and N all strain is off both parts

both crack and break especially on the high torque high vibration 4.0L OHV

Yes that was all replaced via the 600 even the tc and starter at the tranny shop. they said it was not in the tranny. Someone suggested that it could be a pilot bearing that fits in the crank?? Thanks for the link.

The automatic transmission does not use a pilot bearing; that's only used with a manual transmission to support the nose of the input shaft.

Did you try using an engine stethescope or a short length of hose to try to localize the noise?

xlt4wd90 Thats what I thought. I know on my GTO for my 4 speed I have a pilot bearing in my crank. But I figured he knew something I didn't
