Hey all, gonna do the bronco tank this week. Thinking about getting a plastic tank from Bronco Graveyard. Anyone see any potential problems using a plastic tank? Thanks
the year of tank depends on the sending unit you use. the 80-85 all use the small hole, 85-92 use small and large hole and 93-96 use large hole. if you find one with the small hole you wont be able to use your stock sending unit.
the only thing i dont like about the plastic tanks is they expand and contract more than the steel ones. i just felt better going back with a steel one... i mean if nothing else just for the pure fact steel is stronger and will deflect more.
i went one step further with my tank however, i took my tank and stripped it down and took it to my buddies truck accessories place and i had him spray line-x all on the outside. then i took a rubber mat and put it b/t the tank and skidplate. if it ever starts rusting it'll be b/c its sittin on the bottom of the ocean somewhere or someone has cut it up!
i highly recommend this mod! i can drive twice as far b/t fuel stops and it can really save some time!
and BTW, please do the filler neck mod while your in there! its too easy and cheap not too and you already have the tank dropped! (unless you have done it already! lol)

Thanks Fishman. I will definitely do the filler neck mod. I think i'm gonna be a pioneer and go with the plastic tank. I'm just wondering if I can use a bronco sending unit so the level will be correct? I will have it done in the next week and I'll post the results.
if you use the stock tank and stock sending unit then it is dead on. the problem i found is you dont get JUST the sending unit with the tank, the sending unit is part of the in-tank fuel pump. what i did was use my stock sending unit and swap the float arms with the bronco b/c it is way longer and will reach the bottom and top easily!
you can buy JUST the sending unit for the bronco tank on jeff's bronco graveyard for like $60!
