hows it going guys i have a 1991 f-250 e4od 3.55 scab na. i was just wondering what i can expect for mpg. my buddy who used to own a truck just like it said he got about 18-19. i dont tow at all and i do alot of city driving. so what do you guys think i should be getting for milage
thanks sam
Dry running highway speed probably 20...... Loaded/towing 8K about 14. Use of good additives and fuel will give bonus's....... also depends on IP, injectors, timing, tires etc.
wow i am seeing like 11-12 i the last owner had ip, injerctors, fuel lines and lift pump replaced. the motor has good power and no somke and i drive it real easy on take off. do you think anything is wrong
I did a bunch of mods to try and help mileage out and get the truck to run better after I bought it a year ago (10mpg). Changed everything out (ip, injectors, all the filters, exhaust upgrade etc) and get about 12mpg combined but mostly city. Funny thing is the better it runs the worst the mileage gets.
What use is it to have a turbo if you don't get to listen to it scream.
Guess that is why I get 10 to 12 MPG, but mine is a rather heavy truck and it is always hauling something.
Power increase is in to 40 to 50 percent range, possibly even a little more if you do a few extra mods with the install.
MPG...if you use the extra power most of the time, the MPG will drop. It takes fuel to make power, more power = more fuel. If you keep your foot out of the IP, the increased efficiency will increase the MPG number. Unfortunately most people that install a turbo tend to use the extra power so the MPG stays about the same or drops a little. Driving style has a very large impact on MPG in any diesel, fast take offs and high MPH numbers do suck down the fuel.
Yes, I can leave the light and stay with or pass most cars, but the car is something like 3500 pounds and my truck empty is 8000 pounds. That takes fuel.
I did not build my truck as a drag racer, I built it to pull and haul which it does very well.
bl I think you need to keep your foot out of it, I have the same truck I get 16 to 18 all the time... your listening to the turbo too much... lol
yeah Roamer, I need to tone it down a bit but I'm having too much fun. Part of the reason I haven't had time to send out the downpipe to you (sorry). Seriously, the end of Dec was crazy and the beginning of Jan was no better so I will try to get it out if you still want it (boxed, and almost ready to go).
I am waiting for some exhaust leaks to clog before I look into the mileage thing again. I fear something else may be majorly wrong (valve, rocker, rod etc.).
Hey not a problem at all.. glad your having fun.. take you foot and put a egg under it the mileage will go up a lot...take your time I am in no hurry..thanks
Bob
I just put my first 1000 miles on a new-to-me 86 c-6 3.55 NA flatbed, averaged 14.76 mpg, mostly city miles, limited freeway miles @ 60-65 mph. I know it has leaking return lines, way too small batteries, and non-operational glowplugs. Also, tires are smaller than recommended. Only at 171,000 miles, but runs much better than my '85 dually C-6 4.63 NA @286,000. I am hoping to see that improve with fluid changes, return lines and o-rings replaced, CDR service, continued use of B5 bio and Diesel Kleen additives and filter changes. I have really babied it, but not disappointed. I hope to RR/rebuild my '85, I know it needs injectors, ip, intake/exhaust mods, and questionable headgaskets, but able to coax 12 MPG average over last year.
