I have a 2004 Supercab some annoying problems, any ideas would be appreciated. During a recent winter storm here I had the headlights turn on by them selves, (just headlights, no park lamps), cycling the key to on then back off turned them off. The truck has autolamps, later that night the headlights came on as they were supposed to, but no park lamps (or dash lights) until I turned them on manualy. Since then the lights seem be behaving, but there are a couple of things that never seemed to be right. The outdoor temp. takes up to an hour before reading the correct temp., and the parking aid has never worked since we bought the truck. One of the sensors is damaged, but the ford body shop insisted it should still be functioning. I have checked all the wiring for the system (resistance is within spec. on all wires), does it really need all four to work?
I would guess that the autolamp switch may be malfunctioning, thus giving you the headlamps only and not parking lights, maybe a damaged contact inside the switch. I've never run into this and that would be my best GUESS. The outside temp sensor is subjected to too much for it to be 100% accurate. As long as it's in the ballbark I wouldn't be concerned. For the parking assist, I do not know with Fords, but when I used to deal with it on Mercedes, 1 sensor being messed up will throw the whole system off. All it needs is 1 sensor to read incorrect and the system will malfunction.
Thanks for the information on the reverse sensor system. The outside temp. sensor can be off as much as 25C or 50F, there is a self correcting system in place, if it reads hotter than when the truck was shutoff its supposed to read the last value. If its colder than when the truck was last driven, or been parked for more thant a couple of hours its supposed to display the actual sensor reading. (yes the sensor is fine, I have checked it with a multi-meter) Is there a GEM on these trucks? It was recommended to me to check it out, and to make sure that it has good ground connection to the module.
