Volant intake
You have just answered some questions for me on another thread about intakes. I meant to also ask you about noise or loudness from the three intakes you suggest. Is one any louder than the other. I just took 40 series flow masters off my truck because they were too loud for my taste. I am on the 40+ side age wise and I do not like to be heard coming from a county away nor do I like to turn up the radio to drown out mufflers or intakes. I think I recall seeing in another thread something about the volant having that old 4 barrel sound. Could you give me a quick ranking of the following three intakes with regards to in cabin noise.
1) AEM
2) Volant
3) K&N
haha.Heres the thing you need to know. Ford has large resonant helzholm resonators in the intake tube for good reason. Changing the intake to another "long tube" will get rid of these chambers, but will introduce the resonant sound. Specifically, at certain rpms and under load, all three of those intakes will make resonant noises, reported as different things, a moan, a vibration, a whistle, etc. The volant is probably the quietest since it uses an essentially closed box around the filter, which helps cut back on the noise some. All of these intake will make the 4 barrel "sucking" noise, which is pretty cool in everyones book, but some people dont like the droning sound. Personally, I was ok with it. Its not a constant thing, just in certain situations, like possible going up a hill with the overdrive engaged.
The JLT, which is a short ram intake, wont give you that droning noise, but youll get a louder "sucking" noise.
I hope I explained that in a way you could understand, haha.
