Got a question for the techs. This could be a quirk or a problem, don't know. First off I have a 2005 PSD with no mods but coolant filter that has been on for a year and a half. The new coolant level sticker has been on for about the same amount of time. Seems that just recently the degas bottle level will vary by about an inch and a quarter. One week the degas level will be just below the sticker min level and the next week just above the degas bottle min level. This is about an 1 1/4 inch difference. Today we had a high in the mid 60's and the level was above the bottle minimum. There is no residue of any type in the degas bottle and the truck runs great. This has been going on for about two months. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Mike
If it was me. I would ask the selling dealership. This way they can check it out if needed under warranty. Also you would sleep better having a hands on look.
they will drop that much with the slightest tilt. i would not worry because your truck will not use coolant and then make coolant. it may have something to do with your filter holding or releasing coolant.
With the addition of the coolant filter there are more places for air to trap. I think you are a little paranoid, because as BTH said, they don't lose coolant and then make it back. I would say that you might try making sure that you are checking it under the exact same conditions. Note the level when completely cold, and then at full operating temp. If these levels are correct, you have nothing to worry about.
Sometimes the more you know the more you will worry. I have often warned people against installing oil pressure gauges on Harleys. Cause if you see what it is it will scare the crap out of you. 5-8 psi at idle while hot, but that is just the nature of the beast.
