Lucas Transmission Fix

Anyone have any experience with this stuff? This is what I have, Lucas Transmission Fix

I have a 1967 Galaxie 500. Everything has been rebuilt except (I think) the transmission. I am having some problems with it slipping on me. I picked up some Lucas Transmission Fix for it but am confused as to how to use it. It says it can be added to existing fluid without drainning any out. I checked the fluid level first thing and it looks to be maybe as much as an inch over the add mark already. If I add the Lucas isn't that going to overfill it quite a bit?

On a side note, if and when I have to replace the transmission I would love to put a more modern one in with OD for better fuel economy on the highway. What would work with the 390 that's in it.

I would drain the level down to 1qt low before adding the Lucas. Overfilling is bad on a tranny. It may help, but it sounds like the clutches are shot.

I don't know of any OD trannys that will bolt up to a 390. Gear Venders offers an OD unit that bolts in place of the tailshaft that is a good unit.

It may not matter now. Some lady tried to side-swipe me. When I jumped on the breaks to avoid her something broke. I have multiple problems now because when I tried to accelerate away it just went to about 3/4 throttle and hung there. Also the linkage for the trans is all messed up now. I went to check it out and found the fan shroud is all chewed up and I believe it cut one of the transmission lines as well. I'm sure a motor mount broke but I'm affraid it may have tore up the linkage pretty bad. And it couldn't possibly have helped the trans any.

Slamming on the brakes should never cause this kind of damage.

I slam mine on more than I like and have driven on very rough roads and abuse the vehicles I own more than I should. I have had several accidents over time which is way worse then slamming on the breaks. In over 30 years of abuse I have never broken the engine/tranny loose. Something ain't right.

You need to thoroughly inspect, replace and tighten all your mounts and linkages. Whoever installed the engine etc, didn't do a proper job. Loose mounts and linkages are very dangerous.

Good Luck,
Jim Henderson

You may be right. I have found other problems with it that are consistent with with someone not knowing exactly what they were doing.

Sounds like the drivers side motor mount has either broke or the bolt fell out. Once you get the motor back down in the mount properly, you should be able to put the linkage back on. It usually comes out of the cross bar when the motor raises up.

i bought a 68 merc station wagon from some guy at a bar,it was definitely a bar car and i just needed something for work.$100 and the guy said it ran good but had some minor issues.so i drove it and it was tight so i bought it.

i drove it for a week 60 miles round trip no problem until i came down a steep hill and made a right turn and the motor turned.so i just chained the motor to the m/m holes in the frame and sold it in the same bar for $100 after a coupla months.
