Well as I stated before I was geting my great grandfathers truck. It is a 58 F100, short bed, step side. It is a non custom cab. 223 6 cyl and the 4 speed tranie. It has 3:89 gears( i think ) It has not been started I think since 1988 when the rear breaks messed up. It has vac wipers, an after market underdash AM radio, and the fresh air heater. At some point an Anco Big Squirt windsheld washer was added. The truck has been painted multiable times with the current color a white, red, blue, and green. The orginal color was an S code green which I have been told that was a special order color. It is pretty ruff as in it needs about the bottom 12 inches of the cab but I think it is fixable( I found another cab). It does have the spare tire on the bed side and a 59 hood. As for what I want to do to the truck I am unshure. I will try to update as I can.
Well In January of 2007 we brought her to the house. It was about 70 degrees when we picked her up. She loaded pretty easy as all the wheels moved and we used the tractor. I did have to add air to the front tires but the rears were ok. ( The rear tires are Southern States Co-op, the front I believe are recaps but one is a JC Penney tire) The trip home was good with no problems. A few days later we unloaded her. I had to go out of town and then it snowed. When it warmed up a little (But snow still on the ground) I decided to work on her some. I took a spare battery down and installed it. ( Removed the Southern States Battery) I had to see what still worked so I hopped in the cab. The Lights did not want to work but, the heater motor blew, the dash lights( gen and oil lights) came on, the AM Radio worked and the horn worked( it has an after market horn button which i hope to get rid of). When I had looked at the truck before we brought her home I had tryed to turn the motor over by hand but did not have any luck. When we tryed to load her the clutch and break master cyl caps would not come off. I tryed again at home and broke the clutch cap and did not attemp the break. I chucked the wheel and had to try to turn the motor over with the starter.... It turn a little bit and stoped. It sounded like the stater motor was kind of hanging but that it was the starter not the motor. I pulled the plugs and tryed again and nothing. So I Pulled the starter and put it back on and it turned. So I got some gas and starting fluid and she fired twice. ( Hard to do by your self) I have not had anymore time to work on her since as I am back at school but hopefuly at spring break I can update. There are some pictures in my gallery.
A JCPenny tire! That sucker's got to be old enough to vote.
Seriously though, looks like you got a nice project to work on. Always nice when it belonged to a close relative and has family history.
