updated head gaskets?

ive seen posts that the head gaskets have been updated/upgraded, do any of our resident techs know when this took place some people say if ur eng. build date is after jan 06 then u r ok others say something like sep of 05, sorry for beating this subject to death...oh ya guys pep boys extended the oil filter sale until feb 3rd just for your info...2-for $7

they havent been updated. what ford and internation did was commonize parts of the 6.0 to create less inventory. what they did was change size dowel plugs that the head sits on. there is no difference in quality or materials what so ever. basically they made it more serviceable.

so what ur saying is that if get a tuner i have the same chance of having head gasket problems as the others? others being 03-05.5 my?

Didn't the commonized 6.0 get slightly larger head studs?

not that i am aware of. it was dowel pins as far as i know. i use the same head kits for 03 or 06's and the kit contains different dowels for the new style head

Not that it would be a reliable source, but the Diesel Power article that just came out on the new 6.4 said it had larger head bolts -- 1st I'd heard of it, so maybe they had the dowels and bolts confused

The 6.4L head bolts are thicker and shorter than the 6.0L.

Thanks for that info -- does that mean the late (commonized head) 6.0s got the same head bolts?? (hoping so... )

no, the shorter bolts only apply to the 6.4
