Emission laws nab Jesse James

I have wondered about these custom bikes and rods in California and their radical non -emission exhausts systems. I guess if JJ didnt have the big bucks he probaly would still be un-noticed. ...

Why didnt the state get him when he first started building his non - emissioned chops? Looks like the other bike/rod shops had better pay attention now or pay later.

sounds like a good idea to me. But If Yamaha, suzuki, harley, etc. have to meet emissions, then why not Jesse James? A way around this would be to actually start with an older title chassis and modify it.

And how long would it be until they closed that loophole? And how long after that would it be before every automotive enthusiast who rebuilds his motor has to meet current year emissions standards?

The only thing environmentalists like is trees. Anything with a gas or diesel engine is on their hit list. They are out after all of us.

actually, in california, they are cracking down on the rod shops as well for using that loophole. they have finally figured out, that although the vehicle is registered as a 19 whatever, it may only have some tiny little piece that is actually originally. apparently that is why Boyd Coddington sold his wheel business. they decided to make an example of him for the car shops. guess now they are gonna do the bike guys

the funny thing about that article was the states refusal to allow him to retrofit those bikes for compliance. As if 271,000 was gonna do anything for california air quality. It isnt about clean air, just about all those ultra liberal soft minded and bodied california people getting there money. it is routinely proven that our old cars, trucks, and bikes are not an emissions problem. we just get to be the scapegoat for there unwillingness to face the truth and the problems that are real. hell i read a great article showing that energy used from the inception of a vehicle through its demise, and the energy used on new vehicles vs. old vehicles. Us old vehicle enthusiasts were way ahead with the continued use of our old vehicles. the best thing that could happen to the usa is to have the fault break and let california slip to the bottom of the pacific. i love california and know there are some fabulous people there including FTE brothers, but the minority clearly has a hold of the wheel and the ship is running away. when do the majority ,the people with the sense finally have enough, and step up and punch the minority in the mouth and let them know where they belong. this whole country is being guided by the soft , the minority, while the rest of us feel it is easier to just get along, rather than fight for our rights. well there was my rant for the evening, hope to hear from some quiet spoken, strong, like minded brothers.

i love my driving my dads rig, cause whenever im by a bus stop with a bunch of hippies at it, i stick it in 5th and floor it. pisses em off bad.

we also have people who stand on street corners and hold signs that say stuff thats against anything and everything but trees.

> the energy used on new vehicles

About 10,000 gallons of petrol (oil and gas) used to make and deliver a new vehicle. A lot of the plastics and foam they still use in newer vehicles can not be easily recycled.

What are the chances of the big cycle manufacturers having a hand in going after JJ and others, to try and shut them down. They want all the sales for themselves. The same will hold for cars and trucks. It's all about the mighty dollar, and being in control.
