'92 F150 electrical problem?

I was driving home last night and the dim headlights went out so I pulled over then the park lights and dash lights went out but the radio was still on.I figured out the high beams would still come on so I drove home. The alternator or amp gauge reads normal with the lights off or on high beams but if you have the lights on and switch to dim the gauge starts jumping like there's a short somewhere? What could be causing this?

Is the headlight switch hard to get to in the column?

What about the headlight on/off switch in the dash how do you get to it?
