I am looking at buying a engine stand that will be able to hold up the 6.9L and also hold up the smaller gas blocks also. I will get one that has four wheels for stability. Any suggestions on brands/features to look for?
What does a 6.9 weigh when fully dressed? I have been wanting one for awhile, but I want it to be very stout. Considered making one-that motor is too expensive to see it hit the deck.
You will be looking at about 11 to 1200 pounds when it is on the engine stand.
An engine hoist rated at 1000 pounds will not lift the engine.
A 1500 pound hoist groans with every pump of the handle.
If the engine comes out of my truck with an engine hoist, the radiator shell comes off so I only have to get the engine high enough to clear the front bumper with the oil pan.
Out the top, a chain hoist is the only way to go.
Thanks Dave. I assume you looked at my gallery and saw how high my truck is. I need to check my cherry picker out for a capacity. The last time the motor came out we used an old boom style tow truck, and even then it was all that old wrecker wanted to do the job!!!!!!!!!
I took mine out over the radiator one time with an engine hoist, that much weight that high up with all the wiggling and turning you have to do was way to scarry for me.
And my truck only has 33" tires, a 2" cab lift and some extra spring leaves in the front.
