I'm not positive...but since you could get Rancheros with 390's in the late 60's and in 70-71 with a 429 or 429SCJ (saw one at a car show with factory 4 spd and "shaker" hood)...I would assume they came with 9 inchers on the big blocks. Deen
Well, i know it has a posi rearend, i just assumed it had a 9 inch underneath of it, i am not sure of the year though, 72 or 74, but it did have a 302 in it, until it was replaced with a 351, and finally retired to the weeds after the 351 was transplanted into a 66 f-100. the car is rotting away and i was hoping to salvage some parts for use and if there was a 9 inch under it, i sure would like to know about it.
the 57-59 Ranchero has 1 of the narrowest 9" housings made. They are very hard to find. I believe all the Rancheros except the Falcon based models(60-65?) had 9" rears. The 66-71 could be had with 8" or 9" depending on engine choice. Not 100% sure though.
As far as it fitting, I am unsure. I do know for a fact though, all Ranchero's with the 351 "C", and 429 engines from 70-71, and 72-79 with the 351 M/ 400 , 460 engines all came with the 9 inch rear. Though most have the 28 sline open rear.
