So I figured out that my state knows my truck came with a CAT. What options do I have for an exhaust? Does a cat back system reduce EGT enough to chip my truck? Or do I need to hook my cat up to the Pratt and Whitney JT I have mounted in the back yard to blow its guts out? Does the cat add any silencing to the system? Perhaps a good system using the cat as my "muffler" would suffice?
Thanks,
Todd
2 weeks and I'll loving the new truck. 15 MPG around town with very little highway use. Totally stock. Would love to get that into the high teens and keep my reliability.
Some have cut the cat apart and welded it around a straight pipe to give the illusion of having a functional cat... I just ditched it and went straight pipe through that section. Interstingly I bought the cat delete part from the Ford dealer.
I know someone who has an early 99 with an auto and it has a cat I actully know of 2 people that do a guy a used to work for had a early 99 with a cat I have a 02 auto with no cat from the factory a couple months after I bought it I was looking at a truck with a 6 speed that I wanted to trade mine in for. It had a cat on it why would the 6 speeds get cats and the auto's wouldnt?
I know I can lug at a low rpm and make it smoke pretty good (not really into smoke, bad rap for oil burners). That is why I believe they put it on the 6 speeds.
Mine is an early 99 model with Automatic. It's a factory cat for sure. Was puchased in New York and has been out West here most of its life. I may try the cat gutting idea. They definitely looked for it and it showed up on the emissions paperwork.
I have a 2000 w/ a 6spd and no cat from the factory. But mabey if it is a ca model it came with a cat?????
I know that the early 99's are different from the 99.5-03

So I'm wondering now if I could lower my egt by deleting the muffler and going to a new 3" cat (I'm thinking mine at 197,000 is probably shot and blocked). Anyone have data to suggest a muffler delete factory exhaust can lower EGT significantly?
