99 350 starting problem

99 350 starting problem
My 99 7.3 dsl just won't start when cold. If it is plugged in it starts fine,if not it fires for a second then quits. good battery,it would cook the starter if I cranked it long enough. Any ideas where to start first?

I recently had the same situation on my 99' and found the GPR (glow plug relay) to be bad. FYI.

Stancor-White Rogers 586-902
Interational 1831646C1
I was going to get the international part but decided to go with the Stancor-White Rogers relay/contact due to it's heavy duty construction etc...

Yes it was the GPR,jumped the two large posts with a heavy gage wire and fired right up at -20 celsius.
(the gpr is the shorter of the two)will now hunt one down and replace it.
Thanks to all !
Will leave the mini jumper in the glove box for next time this happens.
