I got to reading the pump label the other night looking for the #1 and the diesel at my local station is the 50ppm ULSD. What is the optimum additive doseage? I have always added exact to the specifications on the Diesel Kleen bottle. Am I'm adding enough additive to treat that low sulfur content?
I usually overdose a bit as it can't hurt anyting. I don't bother measuring how much I use. I usually try to spread out each bottle over the approximate number of fill-ups.
When I overdose it just cost a little more, but if you think of the cost of a new injection pump and injector it pays for itself rather quickly. Still on my factory IP and injectors on my 93' and still running strong at 220kkm.
same here, i would rather use to much than not enough. i normaly don't use diesel kleen, but instead use macs diesel treatment from napa. since i usually run the tanks down to at least 1/4 before i fill them, i just dump 1/2 of the 1 quart bottle in each tank.
I buy my DieselKleen in 96-ounce bottles at Walmart. Since dumping from the 3 quart jug is so awkward, I bought a little plastic 8-ounce measuring cup that I keep in the truck alongside the jug.
IIRC, the instructions say 1 jug treats 150 gallons of fuel if you want to raise cetane 6 points, or 300 gallons to raise cetane 3 points. I figure that's one ounce per 3 gallons of fuel. When I fill up I usually go with that and "round up" to the nearest ounce or half ounce.
If I put 13 gallons of fuel in, I put 4.5 ounces of additive in - instead of 4.33 ounces. If I put 14 gallons of fuel in the tank, I'll add 5 ounces - intead of 4.66 ounces. Is that enough? I'm not sure. According to the bottle it is, and I have to think that PowerService isn't going to tell me to mix it too lean - that would be telling me to buy and use less of their product. Not exactly in their best interest if ya' know what I mean.
I know that all the PS guys say that their owner's manuals say that 5% biodiesel (B5) is more than enough to make up for the lubrication lost when the sulfur is removed from the fuel. So, lately I've been burning bio-blend. With 19 gallon tanks and B20 available close to where I work, I figure every gallon of B20 I put in my tank equals ~1% bio when mixed with a full tank of #2. I add enough B20 to my tank to get me in the B5-B10 range. If I fill up from an empty tank, I'll pump 6 or 7 gallons B20 and then 12 or 13 gallons #2. If the tank's half full, I pump 3 gallons or so of B20 and top it off with 6 or 7 of #2.
My truck seems to be liking it.....

Alright, thanks for the replies guys! I do about the same Cheaper, I estimate just over how much to add according to the specs on the bottle. I know the Diesel Kleen is working though, gonna have to change my fuel filter here soon
