Distributor

Does anyone have a y block distributor from 1956 or earlier they would part with? Want to use the shaft for priming the oil. Thanks.

I just bought a stainless steel 1/4" hex rod from Small Parts in Miami. 24" for about $8. Just chuck it in your reversible drill.

I know it is a hex shaft since I put it together, 1964 292. I thought someone may have replaced a pre '57 distributor and had a Loadamatic sitting around collecting dust. The 1/4 hex rod is a good idea but then I would have to pull the oil pump shaft out and put it back in. I thought about using a 1/4 socket glued to a shaft. I have one for a 5/16 oil pump shaft. I guess I could find some 1/4 square rod and glue or weld a 1/4 drive 1/4" socket to one end. Thanks.

Someone makes a flexible drive for a cordless drill with diffrent tips, I have one. You can chuck it in your drill and use a tip to get you to a hex drive.

just use a socket and extension.i think 5/16 fits the shaft.tape the socket on so you dont lose it.you can crank it with a ratchet and it will prime in less than a minute.

Will a new oil pump draw oil from the pan if the pump is installed empty, that is, without being filled with vaseline or white grease?

That sounds like a great idea. I will have to check some tool stores for one.

I was looking thru a local tool store and found an 11 inch long drill driver with a 1/4 inch drive end that will fit on the oil pump shaft. It is about the same length as the distributor without the cap. It is made by Vermont American. Should do nicely for primng the oil.

Good info rogerf100. Trying to prime the oil in my rig is difficult, with the distributor being so close to the firewall.

Remember the old Flatties? In the front behind the fan under the water pumps?
