It works?! Adding the fresh batch of methoxide produced about a half inch of glycerine on the bottom of the 2 liter bottle, and instead of being cloudy, it looks just like the pictures show it should. Now I just need to wash it. How do you separate the methoxide out, or does this stay with the biodiesel?

Good for you Trent! The methoxide is not methoxide any longer. You will need to remove the excess Methanol tho. On a small test batch you can just leave the container open, and it will slowly evaporate, or you can GENTLY heat it and it will evaporate. As it evaporates you will notice some "slime" settling on the bottom, this is soap, with a small amount of NaOH. Keep us informed on your progress, we'll have you making bio for your truck in short order!
Sorry been busy since last entry. Have run the BIO through three water washes now, looks worse that before I washed it. It was nice and clear, but now it is cloudy. the water seperates cleanly like it's supposed to, but... anyway will try a few more washes to see what happens. I think I will try the Magnasol wash next time.
Trent,
If the BD phase seperates quickly and cleanly from the wash water don't be too concerned about the cloudy BD phase. The question is, " is the wash water cloudy?" You only need to rinse the BD until any and all the soap is removed and the pH of the wash water is neutral or pH 7. When the wash water is clear, let it set overnight to allow any remaining water suspended in the BD to settle. Pour off the BD into a clean sause pan and warm gently over the kitchen stove. The BD should clear and the very small amount of water remaining in the BD boil, sizzle off. As soon as it stops sizzling, stop heating. Allow the BD to cool and place in glass jar. It should be essentially transparent, either yellow or brown.
Those of us who use the water wash method in bulk scale production usually build a spray tower and only warm the BD to 120 F to remove the remaining water traces.
