what would be the cause of my rear end leaking (on the truck!!!) never really worked on a rear before and it's leaking from the front. and have no idea from here on.
the leak looks to be coming from the front where the yoke goes in. any advise on repair because this is something that i've never been faced with. and whats the odds that there may be damage inside and what should i look for in looking for damage?
If the rig has been sitting a while than most likely the pinion rusted and took out the seal. That's good and easy to fix. 1.5 inch socket and a 1/2 inch air gun should do it. Worst case is that one of the two pinion brg,s has gone south and a new seal wont fix it. Ya will have to overhaul the deff. I just put all new brgs and seals in my 3/4 ton(both ring and pinion) in a day. And that was not hurrying but having the knowledge and the tools. Good luck.
PS: If ya can move the yoke up down sideways after removing the driveline than ya got a brg out.
would this be different if it has been a driver and to my knowledge has never sat for any long period of time? going to tackle it this weekend and hope i'm not jumping overboard with it.
