428 CJ heads

Need some help.A friend of mine called last nite and had bought a bunch of parts from an old hotrodder. In this batch of parts are intakes, cam and heads. He claims to have a set if 428 CJ heads. He took the valves out and they measured 2.09 on intake and 1.66 on exhaust.I am going to buy them this weekend but I need to know how much they are worth. There has been no machine work done to these heads, just as are. What would be a fair price for them?

Well if they are the C8OE-N $300-500 is a good price from a friend. Maybe less. That's in good shape. Those heads sell from $800 up depending on the date code. Crazy! Just because they have CJ size valves does not make them CJ heads. C8OE-6090-H or N were the CJ head castings. These were still being cast until mid 75 at the Cleveland foundry and sold over the counter as service parts. The C8WE-6090-A or G heads were found in the Cougars. Much rarer and came in a few chamber variations. There is a recent topic on these heads on the net54 forum. Showing both open and closed versions of the WE heads. The closed chambers are much like the early EDC chambers and the newer Glidden style chambers. So verify the casting numbers are CJ numbers and agree on a price that works for both of you. The 69-70 date code heads are the most desireable. The later service parts not as much but still well sought after.
