1980 should have been close to the end of the line for F106. They were being transferred to Guard and Reserve units about then. You probably saw a lot of F4s early on then F15s and F16s later.
You were around when the 117s and B2 first appeared. I hear they use special fuel to help disguise the infrared signsture.

The F106s were in a det off of McCord in Or. Klamath Falls to be exact. They closed it in 81 or moved us out of there at least. Went to Tampa and refueled F4 and F16 at MacDill
I got out of POL in 85. Work in SAC on B52 at Barksdale in Bossier City, La for some time then on to the KC10. Got completely out of flightline work and into computers by 94. retire in NJ out of McGuire.
I would think twice before i ran jet-a in my truck. It has a lower BTU than #2. It's not taxed for road use, lack of lubrication. These PSD injectors are way too expensive to replace. We have to sump the acft tanks as well. I just take that fuel home and put it in the oil tank for the house.
I had a another acft mechanic friend who had a dodge with a Cummins. He had the Bosch injector pump and ran jet-a exclusively. He got rid of the truck after 100k miles, engine was fine, truck was falling apart. Our injectors are the weak link.
