Ok so I decided on the DP tuner. I all ready have intake exhaust and guages . My question is there anything else i should do before a chip? Im thinking of a transmision upgrade. Is it needed? and what is the best but not expensive nor to hard to do. And also i dont do no towing i haul a four wheeler thats all. I want to know what settings you recomend. I want one for fuel economy one for just racing and one that you have no problem with ithe truck shifting down on step grades. So what hp settings do you recomend. Also i see people have the high Idle as a seeting what is it for?

I would recommend calling Jody and explaining to him what you just wrote. He would advise the best tunes to fit your need and can custom tune any of his tunes for you. I do recommend at least a shift kit (Sonnax Tricumulator, Trans Go, etc) if you don't have anything done to your tranny. I remember prior to the Sonnax shift kit my truck shifted really slow between 2nd & 3rd in the higher HP settings during hard runs; felt really hard on the transmission to create that slow "smooth" shift.
Of course, if money allows Brian's VB (BTS) is the way to go because you can get the BTS valvebody and have Jody tune his chip for it right away. Instead of getting it later and have to take out your chip and sending it to Jody to have it retuned. More downtime, more money and you double labor. That's my next buy when I have PMS later, BTS VB and send my DP out to be reprogrammed for the VB.
Ok i have decided on the BTS it looks easy to install and reading sounds like it will save the tranny and make the most out of my chip. Question is if i buy that first and install it and wait awhile to buy the chip is there any harm in driving around with the bts installed with out the chip.? Or should i just wait and buy them both at the same time?
No harm in driving around with just the VB installed. The shifts will be a little firmer, but it shouldn't cause any damage. Be sure you tell Brian that you're getting one of Jody's chips though, and also tell Jody that you've got a BTS VB when you order the chip.
I drove for about a month with the bts valve body before the chip with no harm. I asked brian about and he said it was no problem. It is really easy to install and does help with the shifts. I got the 60 tow(i don't tow much but it is there when i need it and it gets pretty good milage around the city), 80 econo(use it mostly on the highway for milage, also has great power), 120 race(don't use much, only when you want to turn heads and feel like your in the back seat!), and lope idle(has a neat sound to it, got it cause it sounded cool but i probably would skip it if i did it over). High idle would be nice cause you can have jody set it to what rpm you want.
Here's what Jody told me last year. Plus when I ordered from him yesterday, I told him that I had a stock auto and a stock TC. He said there would be no problems. I just couldn't afford the tunes and the VB.
Dan,
I use the PMT1 code in 90% of my programs because of the better lockup strategy. I took the advice of Brian at BTS years ago about how much better the PMT1 strategy was and now I use it for almost everything. The converter will lockup on the 1-2 shift at 3/4 to full throtle launches and in 3rd it will lockup at 28mph on light throttle. This will help keep the heat down in the trans and allow for better power transfer to the ground.
Ponch, do you notice much difference between the 80 eco and 120? I have stock, 60 tow and 80 eco now, but am considering sending the chip back to have 120 put in, any thoughts?
The 120 is alot quicker than the 80. It really throws you back in your seat. Jody also has a 140 tune now but i didn't want to chance the tranny with that.
Does anyone know when the pod mount switch is coming out? I just bought another gauge and im going to get the pod mouting that goes around the gauges which will leave me with an xtra spot, perfect for the pod switch.

Cool -Do you get alot of smoke with that? I am thinking about getting the smoke tune as well, being as I am sending the chip in anyway...
I'm agreeing with Ponch about being afraid of the trans and 140 or 140+, Bue what's the deal with the smoke setting? I didn't know to ask Jody about that. He shipped mine out today. I thought that when the chip went to 80 or above that you got the smoke. I've got the noise, if I get the smoke, I'll be able to **** everyone off.
