Cons? Older diesels (our diesels) depend on sulfer for lubrication. You'll need to add Diesel Kleen or some other agent to sufficiently lubricate your motor.
Another con? less black smoke upon acceleration. This also comes via sulfer.
Your loss in MPG probably due to the fact that you've run two tanks of winter blend fuel, which isn't as good for MPG ratings.
Actually, the sulfur doesn't add lubricity to the fuel. It's just that when they remove the sulfur for the EMISSIONS standards, they take the lubricity with it. They try to add it back in, but that fuel is very "dry" compared to LSD.

Learn something new every day. I did not know that! Was that ever discussed before? If so I was sleeping, or watching the Simpsons or something. D'Oh.
I think we went over this when you took some time for your dad.
Sulfer is the aromatics and lubricity but as they lower sulfer they increase the add packs to maintain the lubricty factors. But the aromatics cause the o-rings to swell and as the aromatics have been decrease the older o-rings that have become acustomed to LSD now spout fuel leaks with the ULSD due to shrinkage. Dont panic the injector o-rings are much tougher than the drainvalve.
Thanks Alan. Makes sense. I've never really researched ULSD (ive been so busy reading up on turbo's, they still leave me in wonder) but I suppose I assumed that if A=B, than B=A in return.
Not to change the subject or anything, but dad's analysis came back. His liver tumor has shrunk 50%, after his first batch of treatments, and he's taking well to the chemo. Still has his hair, and hasn't lost any weight. All goes well, He'll be better and ready for hunting next fall.
62 The lubricty factors in ULSD have been adjusted with additive packages to maintain the lubricty of the old fuel, I have not adjusted my 20oz/tank that I was using before.

I recently had a serious leak coming from the fuel filter drain valve and took the truck to Colorado Diesel in Castle Rock. They replaced the whole valve but said the leak was caused by deterioration in the O-rings. They have had a number of PSD's in recently with the same issue and their hunch is that it is caused by ULSD. Glad to hear that the injector rings will not be affected!
