Swapping outside temperature sensor

Hi all, I'm a new member...Like Ford Trucks! Got 1979 F150 4X4 400ci Bored, cammed, Big 'ol tires. My son calls it the Barney truck 'cause it's kinda purple. And a 2003 f150 xlt screw, plus a 2004 f150 lariat screw. Told ya I like 'em. Anyway, got an open question for you all to ponder. I recently noticed my 2004 outside temp reading is constantly 5-6 degress F lower than what my 2003 displays, the 2003l is very acurrate as per local radio stations and retail/bank temp signs. Anybody know if I can swap the 2003 with the 2004 to see if the problem follows sensor? I hear there is some "re-programming" that could also fix it.

Hey dwstearman. I had an '05 150 FX4 with the same problem. It was always a few degrees off. I took it back to the dealer in the first few weeks of owning it and they switched it out, no questions asked. Don't know about using the '03 sensor on the '04. New body style may have a different sensor.
I know that the sensor on my '05 was mounted behind the grille in the front. Good Luck...

Best bet would be to check the part numbers at the dealership. The parts guy should be able to tell you if it'll work. My trucks reads 4-5 degrees off in the summer, but is dead on in the winter.
