Max. Ranchero payload

Hello all!

Would anyone know where I can look to find out what is the maximum load weight I can put in my Ranchero's box?

(It's a 77 GT, if that helps...)

Thank-you in advance,

Ben

My suggestion would be to check eBay for an owners manuel, In other words I don't Know. My guess would be one half ton. Jim

My shop manual for my 1961 says it's 800 lbs, but it may be different for yours.

On my brothers 73 there is a sticker on the passanger door that talks about how much it can hold.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-Jan-02 AT 10:38 PM (EST)]mine has rear coil-over shocks (monroe load-levelers?) that upgrade it to 5/8 ton, i believe. not positive though (been a long time!) so think of this info like a rumour...

my dad had a '79 GT with air shocks in back - i'm pretty sure he put more than that in his, but he was pretty hard on the poor thing! didn't seem to hurt it any though, just had to drive it very slow & easy...

So with airbags or an additional coilover setup, half a ton is good? just as longs as I could drop in a smallblock/tranny, I'm happy.

no prob there - i had a 351W & FMX in the back of mine, probably some other stuff as well. that wasn't even a HEAVY load for it, so i'd say you can carry that even without coil-overs or air shocks. probably a good idea to push it up as close to the cab as possible though.
