6.0 Problems?

I read alot of posts from people wondering about all the "problems" with the 6.0 PSD. You would almost think that the other trucks out there don't have issues at all. I have a friend of mine with a 2006 Dodge with the Cummins and he was always talking smack about "more ponies than the PSD, and all the more torque. How his truck would eat my lunch blah blah blah... Well he was coming home from work the other day and the turbo self destructed. The Cummins promptly inducted some of the parts into the cylinders and blew a fist sized hole through the block. This on a motor with less than 5000 miles on it. When he got it to the dealer, there was another one in the shop that suffered the same catastrophic demise. I'm not here to bash the Dodge, but the other guys have some issues too. I love my truck and, well, I thoroughly loved the opportunity to let go with my own surgical badgering about all the smack he was talking. All he could do was hang his head and admit he had it Cummin! His is under warranty, obviously, so I don't feel too bad letting him have it. He looked at me and all he could say was he knew he was going to hear about it from your's truly. He he heeeeee!

Yes all the diesels are having "problems" no matter what kind they are. The more complicated they are manufactured , the easier they seem to break.

The current generation diesels are definitely not your father's diesel. They all have problems. Even a 1% failure rate from a 100,000 production run yields 1000 defective engines. And probably all 1000 owners will be posting multiple times on sites like FTE about how the OEM sucks!

Don't get me wrong, I feel for those that have problems after paying big bucks for their trucks. But if all your information comes from web sites, then you're definitely going to get a more negative slant on the state of affairs.

It's been said many times and in as many different ways....all vehicles have problems. I have spent a good number of years in other online communities, and have seen this first hand. Some of the issues may not be as affecting or critical as others, but they all have issues. The trick is in wading through all of the reports of problems that seem to scream out at you, and determine how prevalent those problems truly are.

For your situation, I'd just keep quiet about it for a bit. He will probably bring it up more often than you would, and that would be letting him defeat his own bragging!

I have been recently looking into a PSD and did a little research with a friend at a local dealer. He said that the 2003-2004 6.0L had problems with injectors and pumps, also the odd turbo. I've been doing some searches and was wondering if anyone can provide any other info. The 03/04 trucks are more in my budget than 05-up which seem to have less problems. Thanks.
