Shift on the fly?

Hi i have a 90 f250 ext cab with the 351 and BW 1356 t-case. i notcied in the mud the other day that i can't shift into four hi while moving, it just makes a metal to metal sound then kicks back in 2 wheel. Does the speed sensor have anything to do with this because i know it is bad?

to shift on the fly, you have to let off the throttle, shift, then you can get back into it. if you try to shift under power, it will do that.
