Question about Pertronix coil...

Hey everyone. It's been ages since I've posted on this forum (had nothing wrong with my truck). But anyway, quite a while ago I installed a Pertronix Ignitor II system, with Flame Thrower II coil. I just realized that oil filled coils should be installed in a vertical position, as they could leak. I've had mine installed horizontally. Does it make any difference? Just curious. If it does make a difference, when I get the chance I'll buy the high vibration version of the coil, which is epoxy and can be installed in any direction.

Thanks for all your help everyone.

The site didn't really say anything. All it said for the epoxy coil is that it could be installed in any direction. The oil filled one it didn't really say anything.

Factory ones are oil filled and are usually mounted horizontally on top of the engine. I read somewhere, (but can't seem to find it) that Pertronix coils are just a re-badge of a regular coil?

Every stock Ford I have seen has had the coil mounted horizontally. I was always told, though, to store them vertically if they're going to be on a shelf for a long time. I was of the understanding that storing them vertically keeps the windings coated properly. I guess the reason it's okay to mount them on an engine horizontally is because the vibration of the engine and movement of the vehicle will slosh the oil around enough to keep the windings wet. Just my 2 cents.
