cam will not slide out
i am trying to slide my cam out so i can install the oil plug i missed, i get my cam out about half an inch then i can't get it any further, i pulled the two thrust plate bolts, took the fuel pump off, now i can't figure out why it won't slide out the whole way. now i did leave the cam gear on and i have a set of cloyes gears so i don't know if that has something to do with it. i am wondering why i can't get this cam out enough to put the plug in. is there a trick to this that i am missing. when i pulled the cam to do the motor the motor was on a stand and the crank was already out when i took the cam out, making it a bit easier.

Loosen the rocker arms, remove the push rods, take off the side cover and remove the valve lifters with a magnet. Don't get distracted when you retime the crank to cam at install. When I was a young buck I watched by older brother miss that step as he recammed his vett. Said I could hang out and watch if I keep my mouth shut, so I did. Motor sounded really bad with the timming that far out. Felt bad not telling him he missed that step, but he had it comming for a long time.
