Wondering if you could call a place like Diesel Innovations in Houston and ask them what they do with the old stock exhaust systems that they change out for aftermarket systems. I am thinking that they throw them away. Maybe you could get what you are looking for cheap.
My bro is a performance exhaust man. They get brand new cars/trucks in for performance exhaust day in day out, and they throw out the old systems if they cannot be resold. It costs them more money to keep it around just to try and sell it for a few bucks. Scrap guy comes and picks it up. He pulled a brand new 4" system off of a truck and set it aside for me once I finally decide to have my exhaust redone.
Yep. It isn't worth keeping around. If it was 316 stainless then yeah, that's about .30/# at a scrap yard but the stuff exhaust systems are made of isn't worth squat. Maybe .035/# at the most. It makes more sense to throw it away. You should see the DUMPSTERS full of stainless chips that we pay to have hauled away from our plant EVERY day. Train car loads.
